Quantification of the divided cells for each NEB ME and comparison between the LPS-treated and untreated control group showed that LPS challenge induced a highly significant proliferation of cells surrounding the NEBs, i.e., more than 72% of all counted NEBs harbored divided cells in their ME after 48 h as opposed to less than 10% in control mice.
