ECHA acknowledged that for renal tumours there ‘was a positive trend in male mice’, but claimed that ‘the findings were not consistent across all studies’. 1 Using quantitative comparisons, the authorities concluded that no evidence for carcinogenicity existed due to lack of consistency of the effects. 3 However, in order to make quantitative comparisons, much more stringent requirements for comparability should be applied.
