Although marginally insignificant in the multivariate model, the risk association with women’s sole ownership of land and/or housing, which was significant at the bivariate level, is counter to the supposition from economic theory that ownership of capital assets empowers women to negotiate less violence—as has been found in Kerala, India [ 44 ].
