The proportions of mothers with several risk factors were found to have an increasing trend over the study period including mothers over 40 years of age, mothers born overseas, previous obstetric transfusions, diabetes, forceps delivery and caesarean sections, both with and without labour (all p < 0.0001) (Table 1 ).
