After adjusting for sample size, we found that the eight most heavily parasitized species, or those with the highest relative tick abundance, accounted for over half (51.6%) of all ticks we collected ( Figure 3 ). Linear models revealed a significant effect of mass (F = 20.28, P < 0.0001, df = 1) and nesting site (F = 7.80, P = 0.0003, DF = 3) and a marginally significant effect of foraging category (ground versus tree, F = 3.61, P = 0.064, DF = 1) on tick prevalence ( Figure 4 ).
