However, the strongest association of severe SGA with cause-specific mortality was noted for death due to infection (HR = 3.19 in the population-based analysis and HR = 4.24 in the sibling-based analysis), followed by neurologic disease (HR = 2.22 in the population-based analysis and HR = 1.97 in the sibling-based analysis) and injury (HR = 1.32 in the population-based analysis and HR = 1.43 in the sibling-based analysis), although some associations were of borderline significance in the sibling-based analyses.
