However, despite this divergence, and in spite of the differences in the experimental protocols that generated the data (the Drosophila transcriptomes were generated from single embryos, while the Aedes time series used pooled embryos), there are still moderately strong and highly significant correlation coefficients between transcript levels of orthologous genes from the respective stages ( Fig 4B , S2 Table ).
