Similarly, exposure to the traversal-deficient SPECT2 − mutant sporozoites produced slightly lower cytokine secretion than did wild type sporozoites; however, this trend did not achieve significance for most cytokines ( Supplementary Figure S1 ), leaving open the possibility that traversal of KCs is not required for their innate immune activity.
