Results and discussion Extraction The distribution ratios for the trivalent lanthanide ions are known to show a decreasing trend across the lanthanide series upon extraction with the extractants [P 66614 ][NO 3 ] and [A336][NO 3 ] from a nitrate feed solution. 11,16 As shown in Fig. 2 , the distribution ratios indeed decreased when going from low atomic numbers (La, Z = 57) to high atomic numbers (Lu, Z = 71), confirming the negative sequence.
