This trend was marginally significant across the basin when calculated using LMM (Figure 3 , Supporting Information Appendix S6.1 ); however, it was observed for 62 of 102 plots ( p = 0.03, two‐tailed binomial test) and persisted when our analyses were repeated across a larger data set (Supporting Information Appendix S6.2 ) and when grouping together nearby plots to account for spatial autocorrelation in the distribution of plots (Supporting Information Appendix S7.2 ).
