There was a highly significant ( p < 0.01) effect of joint damage on both mitochondrial ATP production (Fig. 5 d) and citrate synthase activity (Fig. 5 e), with osteoblasts from damaged joints exhibiting reduced mitochondrial ATP production and citrate synthase activity, compared to osteoblasts from non-damaged joints, in both adult and older adult pigs.
