Serum β-2 microglobulin is very low in healthy individuals, however, its level increases in inflammatory, immunologic, and neoplastic conditions.[ 12 ] Early detection of children with SCD who are at a high risk of kidney impairment is highly significant as it helps to apply measures which can delay progressive kidney dysfunction.[ 7 ] There are only few publications regarding kidney impairment in pediatric patients with SCD.
