Double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) was used in this calculation to more accurately represent the composition of genomic DNA, since metagenomic reads represent the sequences of single strands of fragmented DNA, and there may be significant GC skew between the leading and lagging strands in bacterial DNA (Lobry, 1996 ).
