These findings were in contrast with Schennach et al who reported a weak, but highly significant, correlation of neopterin concentrations with DBP, owing to the fact that atherosclerosis, which is associated with immune activation and higher neopterin production, might possibly lead to vasoconstriction and thereby increased DBP. 42 Also, they reported that there were non-significant correlations of higher neopterin levels with serum cholesterol and SBP.
