Overall, children who were admitted to the hospital with very severe pneumonia had 6 times higher odds of death (OR: 6.52, 95% CI: 4.93–8.61) than those who had a severe pneumonia or non-severe pneumonia at the time of admission ( Table 3 , Model 1), and sex of the child was borderline significant (P = 0.05).
