Particularly, often they are mentioned together with NIRF (Near Infrared Fluorescence) using the dye Cy5.5 (Cyanine 5.5)-SPION system [ 45 ], but also CT (Computed Tomography), PET (Positron Emission Tomography), and SPECT (Single Photon Emission Tomography) are possible to be used in combination with MRI when applying SPIONs as a multimodal contrast [ 46 ] Finally, there is an increasing trend to use SPIONs in diagnostic and clinical techniques.
