Some authors found PD1 upregulation on CD8 + T cell surface in CLL patients 12 , 35 – 37 while others reported no or barely significant upregulation of PD1. 29 , 38 , 39 The discrepancy among different reports could be due to the age of patients at phenotyping 40 or to disease stage. 26 , 29 It should be noted that all the patients we considered are untreated at the time of phenotyping, while this is not always the case in other studies.
