4 Meanwhile, the proportion of tuberculosis cases among the pediatric group in the Kelantan state ranges from 1% to 3.01% of total cases from 2000 to 2015 also with an increasing trend. 5 The proportion of tuberculosis cases among children and adolescents globally varies from 6.6% to 39.2%. 6 - 12 According to the WHO, the proportion was higher in Africa (16.0% to 39.2%), followed by the Eastern Mediterranean region (35.0%), Southeast Asia (20.0%), the Americas (6.6% to 17.3%), and the Western Pacific region (8.5%). 2 The pediatric age group includes all those up to the age of 21. 13 Any child or adolescent (10 to 19 years old) infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis may develop tuberculosis.
