Six studies including 374 participants (182 consuming probiotics, 192 not consuming probiotics) reported on changes in HbA1c ( Figure 5(b) ), and the pooled standardized mean difference showed a weak trend toward significance in HbA1c in probiotics group (SMD [95% CI ]; -0.23 [-0.46, 0.01], P = 0.06) compared with the control group, with a low level of heterogeneity ( I 2 = 23%, P = 0.26).
