By quantifying immunofluorescence intensity using the ImageJ particle analysis tool (ImageJ 1.51 s; NIH, Bethesda, MA, USA) as described previously [ 133 ], we showed that the observed changes between activity and hibernation are highly significant ( Figure 2 E), indicating that CaM plays a key role in neuron survival in the entire nervous system by buffering Ca 2+ concentration or by binding to other effector proteins.
