Acidic residues in acetylation-generated motifs maintained similar preference for position −4 and low frequency in position −2, as observed in the canonical motifs ( Fig 3C ), while among the phosphorylation amenable amino acids used in phosphorylation-generated motifs, only serine showed a weak trend in this direction ( Fig 3B ).
