The skin lesions contained on average CFU counts of approximately 1 x 10 6 to 1 x 10 7 CFUs; while there was a slight trend to higher CFU counts on day four post-infection for the Δ RSM streptococci compared to the WT and complemented strain CFUs, there were no statistically significant differences in CFU counts between these groups ( S2 Fig ).
