papaverine, dobutamine, organic nitrates) have been used to investigate the intrinsic dilator capacity of the coronary microcirculation, the arteriolar dilator adenosine and its agonists, dipyridamole and (more recently) regadenoson, are used most frequently ( Table 1 ).[ 21 – 23 ] A CFR (ratio between CBF at peak drug administration and at baseline) <2.0 definitively identifies coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD), whereas an increase in CBF between >2.0 and <2.5 is of borderline significance.
