33 A retrospective analysis of 979 patients in the QUASAR (Quick And Simple And Reliable) trial (majority stage II) revealed a nonsignificant trend toward increased chemotherapy efficacy with increased bud counts, 34 which is consistent with our study, that is, although time to recurrence was similar in BD1 tumors, adjuvant chemotherapy with UFT for 1 year seemed to be associated with an improved 5-year recurrence rate by approximately 5% in both BD2 and BD3 tumors.
