The lifetime risk of acute appendicitis in males is 8.6% and 6.7% in females 1 with recent meta-analysis showing an increasing trend in appendicitis incidence in the industrialised countries. 2 Based on the epidemiological and clinical data, acute appendicitis can present either as uncomplicated or complicated with the majority of cases being uncomplicated.
