These data lead to the conclusions: VTE recurrence is a highly significant problem, even after the first episode; there is a population at high risk of VTE recurrence with unprovoked VTE and it is possible that this high-risk population would benefit the most from extended anticoagulation; and provoked VTE comprising a broad spectrum of situations, with different recurrence rates.
