73 About 20 years later, a study showed a borderline significant decrease in ADP‐induced platelet aggregation for ASD cases with normal but not increased platelet 5‐HT levels. 74 Recently, detailed platelet function studies were performed for a larger cohort of 159 idiopathic ASD cases and their first‐degree relatives. 59 Though the maximal platelet aggregation response to epinephrine was not lower for ASD cases, its secondary wave response, which is dependent on dense granule secretion, was more frequently delayed or absent in ASD cases compared to controls.
