Whilst normally counterbalanced by effects of endogenous antioxidants, the role of exogenous antioxidants may be significant [ 30 ]; ensuring sufficient intakes of dietary antioxidants in older age, such as carotenoids and selenium, may therefore offer protection against oxidative damage to muscle tissue.
