Total catches of some species show an increasing trend from the early 1980s to present (e.g. small yellow croaker ( Larimichthys polyactis ) and chub mackerel ( Scomber japonicus ); Fig 3 ), while others began to decline in the late 1990s-early 2000s (e.g. largehead hairtail ( Trichiurus lepturus ) and cuttlefish ( Sepiina spp .); Fig 3 ).
