Hence, in contrast to developed countries, drought disasters in developing countries are associated with significant positive temperature anomalies in addition to a large precipitation deficit. Discussion We find highly significant anomalies in temperature and precipitation during years with disasters classified as droughts, floods, and heat waves in the EM-DAT database, even though the climate variables were averaged over entire countries and years (Fig. 4 ).
