Two weeks of withdrawal from repeated cocaine injections did not change the level of GLUN2B in the dorsal striatum and nucleus accumbens, but an increasing trend was observed when both GLUN2A/B subunits were measured, suggesting that new GLUN2B-containing silent synapses were replaced by GLUN2A-containing synapses after longer withdrawal periods [ 42 ].
