An interesting trend appears within the species Z. spiralis , where it is observed that rather than yielding primarily monocyclic phloroglucinols, as in the genus Cystophora , Z. spiralis appears to mainly produce bicyclic derivatives expressed as hemiketals and chromones [ 93 ].
