GWAS analysis of regulatory or functional information enrichment with LD correction (GARFIELD) revealed highly significant 3 to 4-fold enrichment of asthma-associated variants colocalizing to DNase I hypersensitive sites in several tissues with biological relevance to asthma, such as epithelium, lung, and thymus (Fig. 4a ; Supplementary Data 10 ).
