Previous studies have shown a higher prevalence of diarrhea (20% to 26%) and other GI symptoms in patients with SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV[ 13 , 14 ], suggesting a different tropism compared to SARS-CoV-2, although there might be significant variability in the definition used and reporting of GI symptoms for COVID-19 from different hospitals[ 2 , 15 ].
