Although the soil concentrations of Cd that are generally considered phytotoxic vary with soil type, species and type of exposure, in general the 1–5 mg/kg is a ‘sub-toxic’ range in which some effects might be found but effects on a population of plants would not generally be expected (though the transfer of Cd up the foodchain might be significant).
