A decreasing trend in elevated serum lactate indicates that H 2 O 2 -induced Krebs cycle inhibition is being reversed as excess mitochondrial H 2 O 2 is removed followed by restoration of mitochondrial proton motive force needed to transport pyruvate into the mitochondrial matrix.
