However, the highly significant increase in the Neu5Ac mean level obtained in lung isolated membranes during the period of ‘bulk’ alveolarization (comparison between 4-, and 14-day-old age moments), suggests that this sialic acid is substantially added onto epithelial cell surfaces during this important period of lung development and alveoli formation.
