Clinical outcomes during follow-up After adjustment for age, sex, region and randomised treatments (model 1), there were highly significant inverse associations with the risk of macrovascular events and death for the percentage of n -3 fatty acids (HR [95% CI]: 0.84 [0.77, 0.91] and 0.85 [0.79, 0.93], respectively, per 1 SD higher percentage) and DHA (HR [95% CI]: 0.82 [0.76, 0.89]) and 0.85 [0.78, 0.92], respectively, per 1 SD higher percentage) (ESM Fig. 1 ).
