Interestingly, homozygous mutants of Eya1 have severely impaired calvarial bone development ( Xu et al., 1999 ), and Eya1 was downregulated approximately 50% at E18.5 in the SM (and OFs with borderline significance) of Twist1 +/ − mice and in the OFs of Fgfr2 +/S252W mice compared to WT ( Figure S4 ; Table S1 ).
