The first included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of any drug to lower blood pressure and reported a reduction in risk of around 10% at marginal significance (RR 0·9, 95% CI 0·9–1·0). 81 Meta-regression showed risk lowered more if the achieved systolic pressure differential was larger between the intervention and control group.
