The disease monitoring indicators show that the distribution of TB cases is worldwide, with a decreasing trend in mortality and morbidity rates in developed countries. 1 Nevertheless, according to the WHO, about 10 million people are affected by TB each year, which makes the disease one of the top 10 causes of death on the planet and the leading cause of death by a single infectious agent among people living with the HIV. 2 Brazil ranks 20th on the list of 30 priority countries for fighting TB in the world. 2 The incidence of the disease in the country in 2018 was estimated at approximately 35 cases per 100 000 inhabitants.
