The largest KIEs are on the first lifetime, τ 1 (the major FMN excited state relaxation component). The second two lifetime components, τ 2 and τ 3 , which are assigned, at least partially, to transfer vibrational energy to the protein and subsequent relaxation, show smaller KIEs, and the only KIE that may be significant is the protein 13 C KIE on τ 2 .
