Similarly, we found marginally significant associations between COVID-19 mortality rates and PM 2.5 , when controlling for co-pollutants and covariates, although the magnitude and strength of this association observed in the current analysis were weaker, mainly due to our control of the spatial trends, co-pollutants, and residual autocorrelation, which may have confounded the previous study findings.
