Data for 834 individuals scattered across 561 municipalities showed that lower altitude is a highly significant ( r = −0.35, p = 0.0005) predictor of vitamin D levels, perhaps influenced by the high levels of UV light in coastal cities and the cooler climate of higher altitude cities leading to more clothing coverage ( 208 ).
