Although levels of Sn(II) leaching from standard commercial polyurethanes are acceptably low, these findings demonstrate that considerations should be made around the replacement of toxic reagents and solvents when developing thicker porous elastic polyurethane-based co-polymer gel biomaterials, resembling the materials characterized herein, where leaching might be significant.
