A recent randomized controlled trial has shown a highly significant benefit of high vitamin D supplementation in COVID-19 patients: out of 50 patients receiving 25-hydroxyvitamin D in addition to standard treatment 2 only one required intensive care unit admission compared to 13 out of 26 patients having not received vitamin D ( p < 0.001) ( 38 ).
