Average chlorophyll a was nearly two times higher on the north-bank than south-bank sites ( Fig 5 and Table 3 ), differences that were shown to be highly significant in ANCOVA tests; watershed area and percentage of forest cover did not explain the differences observed in periphyton biomass.
