An analysis of the multi-year time series of MODIS Aqua Multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (MAIAC) AODs at 0.47 μm over the IGP region showed an increase in AOD of 0.0187 per year during the post-monsoon and 0.0168/year during the winter over the IGP 40 during 2002–2016; this increase was attributed to an increasing trend in agricultural fires during the same period as a major factor contributing to the trend, in addition to the increase in fossil fuel burning emissions.
