On the other hand, a previous study reported a peak incidence of AdV copies in adenoids and tonsils at 4 years of age and a decreasing trend after that with an apparent half‐life of 2.6 years. 2 Moreover, in respiratory DNA viruses (AdV and HBoV), there has been a stronger tropism observed in adenoids than in palatine tonsils, 2 , 6 , 9 and there is a higher prevalence of those viruses in pediatrics than in the adult population. 5 Only elective tonsillectomy patients who were not acutely ill were eligible for this study.
