Considering that the 5-year cardiovascular mortality in our competing risk analysis was not significantly associated with aspirin use, compared to that for unexposed individuals, the effect of aspirin use on the prevention of cardiovascular events might not be significant, as reported in previous clinical trials. 19 , 21 , 22 , 23 Although our study was not a randomized clinical trial, we covered a much broader population, including the general adult population aged 40 years or above, who had no history of cerebrovascular or coronary artery diseases.
